CUDDAPAH: A majority of beneficiaries prefer individual pucca houses to colonies of multi-storeyed complexes, said MLAs at a review meeting of the month-long Praja Patham held here on Thursday.
Representations seeking house sites, ration cards and sanction of pucca houses were abound while mitigation of drinking water scarcity and power supply problems, roads, pensions, additional classrooms, own buildings for schools, anganwadi centres and health sub-centres were common in 11 constituencies in the district.
`No dearth of funds'
Praja Patham succeeded with people's cooperation in the State, contrary to fears of public outcry due to scorching summer and drought conditions, the Minister for Technical Education, Nayini Narasimha Reddy, said. There was no dearth of funds to mitigate drinking water scarcity and National Food For Work programme to avert migration from villages. Huge funds were needed to meet people's aspirations and works would be done on priority, he said.
A sum of Rs. 2 crores was available to tackle drinking water scarcity and sanction of Rs. 25 lakhs each from MLAs' constituency funds would provide an additional Rs. 2.75 crores, the Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, said.
Power transformers
The district was sanctioned Rs. 32 crores under NFFWP this year, double over last year, he said. One thousand electric transformers were sanctioned for the district, he said and urged the Transco SE, K. Rami Reddy, to expedite works, particularly in Rayachoti and Lakkireddipalle constituencies.
High Voltage Distribution Systems (HVDC) would be installed in 36 sub-stations in the district by June-July, Mr. Rami Reddy said. The Proddatur MLA, N. Varadarajulu Reddy, sought greater funds for school buildings, as many remained incomplete as sanctioned funds were insufficient.
Besides MLAs, the Joint Collector, Kanthilal Dande, the additional SP, M. Lakshmi Reddy, and officials of all departments participated in the programme.
